      Answering Art: A Poetry Workshop

Explore Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya's vibrant murals through ekphrasis, writing poems that describe and respond to visual art, with Clark County, Nevada Poet Laureate Heather Lang-Cassera. Cassera will start by reading examples of poems that respond to works of art. Attendees will be offered prompts and guidance. This event is free and open to the public.

The Clark County Poet Laureate's mission is to promote poetry as an art form and a medium for inspirational public commentary. Heather Lang-Cassera, Clark County, Nevada's third Poet Laureate, holds an MFA in Poetry with a Certificate in Literary Translation. In 2017 she was named Las Vegas' Best Local Writer or Poet by the readers of KNPR’s Desert Companion, and her poems have been published by The Normal School, North American Review, Pleiades, South Dakota Review, and many other literary journals. She serves as World Literature Editor and literary critic for The Literary Review, Faculty Advisor for 300 Days of Sun, and Editor-in-Chief for Tolsun Books. At Nevada State College, Heather teaches Introduction to Creative Writing, World Literature II, and more.

The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art is pleased to present Connective Tissue, the first large-scale assembly of works by renowned neuroscientist-turned-artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya. The exhibition features large scale murals and interactive installations enriched by Phingbodhipakkiya’s belief that power and impact are created through connections and networks.
